The conference took place at the new Retno Hotel - even taxi drivers could not find it

Retno Hotel. Ersal Street, Al Bireh. Tel: 02 295 0022. Fax: 02 295 2484. www.retnohotel.com. E-mail: retno at renohotel.com

Many people came from the U.K. to attend the conference with their Palestinian partners

Speeches were made by the Mayor of Ramallah and many others

Children from Beit Surik (Hackney) performed before lunch. The scene is about farmers before the wall, they end by tearing it down after an Israeli soldier shoots a farmer.

Emotions ran high, and everyone took photos

In the afternoon there were workshops covering a variety of issues and concerns. This is the women's group.

Notes were taken so that points raised could be discussed afterwards.

Kamel, who translated throughout the day, summarises each groups points in both Arabic and English.

The end! Delegates enjoy some fresh air and a chat

After the conference people went off to their twinned communities or into Ramallah - this is a good example of the generous and delicious food on offer at most restaurants (for one person).

We liked the Za'rour restaurant

Ramallah is a mixed Christian Muslim town

One of the many roadblocks that visitors had to contend with - this one on the way to Biddu and Beit Surik. This road passes under a Settler (Jewish) only motorway.
